Where's my gun when I need it

Here's an ad in our local Thrifty Nickel "shopper:"
1970 FORD Shasta Motorhome, 18 footer, 60,000 miles, 289 C4, runs good, decent shape, $650 or trade for firearm. $SOLD!!
Dang it, the thing was gone before I could find my gun.
I knew I should have kept it strapped to my leg. Never know when you are going to need it ... to trade for an RV ... a classic at that.

RE: Safety chains too long?

klhmszy ... I have a dumb question about your chains ... do you "cross" them as you hook them up? Cross the trailer's left chain to the tow vehicle's right hook, etc, so the chains form an "X" under the trailer tongue?
If so, it's really easy to "twist" the two chains around each other a time or two to keep them from dragging

RE: Equalizer Question

Hi guys. I just returned from a 5,000 plus trip, from Illinois, to Colorado, to Canada (Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, Edmonton, Fort McMurray) ... and was fighting this Equalizer loose L-bracket problem also.
I kept tightening the set screw (probably past the point as instructed in the directions) but they kept coming loose.
I finally put some Lok Tight on the treads. The set screws didn't back out again, but one of the L-brackets is once again a little loose.
I was just about to call Equalizer about this.
I'm wondering if they got some defective set-screws or L-brackets.
My equalizer set up is only 4 months old ... but I've got more than 5,000 miles on it.
Hmmmm

RE: Bear proffing campsite

It's a good idea when hiking in bear country to carry some pepper spray ... and wear a bell.
No, that won't deter a bear from attacking and eating you, if it decides you are part of the food chain.
But perhaps the next hiker might smell pepper and hear the bell tinkling when the bear does its business later ... and be able to avoid the bear and its scat

RE: New TT, basic necessaties???

Probably be easier to just say ...
You need ONE OF EVERYTHING Camping World (or other RV accessory place) sells.
Save yourself many, many return trips ... just go buy one of everything.
Have faith, however, there comes a time when you can walk into an RV Accessory place and walk out without purchasing anything!

RE: Unhappy campers

RV DIRECT's Des Moines RV gave us a thorough PDI on our new Jayco ... despite my assurances that I'd owned previous RV's and felt comfortable with operating everything.
Some have suggested taking a video camera with you on your PDI ... a good suggestion, particularly if you are new to RV'ing

RE: No cylinder shut off engines in HD trucks?

On a Chevy ... the muli-displacement engine in the 1500 MAX 6.0 will only kick in under 2000 rpm's ... I gotta ask you, how often are you running under 2000 rpm when you are towing?
And, if you are able to tow under 2000 rpm's ... the system would be kicking in and out at every slight incline.

RE: Passport Leaking AGAIN -4TH TIME

>>water inside while washing
Nope ... not normal ... unless you are using a power washer or high pressure nozzle to "lift" the gasket around the windows and slide-out.
You are not supposed to wash rv's with any high pressure spray ... because you can lift the gaskets and caulk

RE: Do our trailers get a "pre-delivery shakedown"

Overnighting in a Flying J, I once talked with a husband/wife delivery team delivering two Winnebago buses ... he was towing a small pickup truck behind one bus ... and a Casita Travel Trailer behind the other bus.
He and his wife slept, cooked, used the bathroom in the Casita enroute ... and then on the return trip, hooked the Casita to the small pickup and headed home for two more bus deliveries ... or out to do some sightseeing.
He said Winnebago allowed them to sleep in the buses ... but not use any of the facilities ... however, he and his wife felt "more at home" in the Casita Travel Trailer.

RE: Good spill proof gas can for filling generator?

Let us know what you think of the No Spill
Remember ... the trick is to push the button BEFORE you want to pour to release any pent-up pressure ... then release the button to seal the container again ...
Then you can pick up, tilt, any angle you want, then press the button to pour ... when you are done pouring, release the button ... no drip

RE: Good spill proof gas can for filling generator?

I think my 2.5 gallon "No Spill" was $21 and change at my honda dealer ... but I just went to the website and found that a small town hardware store up the road from me is also a dealer ... I might go up there and see how much they want for one (I could use two)(I didn't know they had a 5 gallon one).
Folks, I know this sounds like an info-mercial ... but go to the nospill.com website ... there's a boating magazine article that "tests" gas cans ... and concludes that the staff favorite is the No Spill.

RE: Good spill proof gas can for filling generator?

I got the same can as 2oldman ... pictured above ... at a Honda generator dealer also.
He's right ... it's the most amazing gas can I've ever owned. It doesn't spill a drop.
See that little green button? BEFORE you pour, you press that once to release the pressure inside the can ... then release it ...
You then undo the yellow cap on the front ... and can tilt the can every which way without a drop coming out .... until you press and hold in the little green button.
Marvelous can. Comes in a one gallon and a 2.5 gallon (which I got) ...
I'm pretty lazy, but I'm going to go out to the garage now and see what the name of the darn thing is ...
Just a minute ...
Ha! The brand name is "No Spill" ... and the label says there's a website ... nospill.com.
I'll be darned. There is a website www.nospill.com
It's the most expensive gas can I've ever bought ... but boy, is it worth it.

RE: Do you lock your RV?

fordsooperetc>>The problem with not locking it? The thieves already assume that the RV is locked! Therefore without even trying to door, they will obtain access by destroying
Oh man, I never thought about a thief, in a hurry, just breaking a window and/or popping a door without trying.
Maybe I should just put a sign on the door ... "DOOR OPEN ... Please don't break it!"
Ha!
Also because I've never filed a claim for theft ... never thought about insurance not covering without an unlocked door. Hmmmm. Might have to rethink my position here (By the by, it's not my wife's position. She thinks I'm crazy.)

Do you lock your RV?

Ok, seems like we are reading more and more about rv break-ins.
I've got a question ...
When you leave your RV (in your yard, storage lot, or campground) do you lock the rv door?
I don't.
Now, I sometimes keep a couple hundred thousand dollars in one of the cabinets (yeah, right) but other than that ... I'd rather lose a few items than deal with the grief of a broken door & lock.

RE: How to store Equalizer?

Y'all's hitch heads must be a lot lighter than mine ...
I get that sucker up in there at the beginning of the season and leave it attached & locked until Thanksgiving, or so. (Much to the chagrin of my wife's shins)(She complains about hitting it all the time ... but I don't care, it's staying put).
If I want to lift weights, I'll go to the gym (not saying I'm going to the gym, either)(I'm going camping).

RE: Change 2 things, what would they be?

Two biggest things I'd change.
1. I'd spending more time camping.
2. I would gotten into RV'ing earlier.
Time's a wasting, folks. Weather's getting nice.
Time to go camping and quit talking about it!
We're days away from heading out on a 7 week, 5400 mile trip.
I'm not changing anything ... except my longitude, latitude and attitude.

RE: Thefts from new RVs

Unfortunately, here in Illinois ... thieves are becoming more and more aware that new RV's come with flat screen tv's ... which are easy pickin' for any scumbucket with a small prybar.
They are also stealing propane bottles off the front of rigs ... at my storage lot.
I chained the gas bottles (only thing that's going to solve is make it harder for me to take the bottles off for refills).
But, hey, at least I feel like I'm doing something.
Now, please, we don't need to hear from any of you "I would never store a trailer at a storage lot" people ... I ... and others ... have no choice. Our subdivision does not allow RV parking in front or along side your home.
